Tubecon has secured the steel fabrication and erection contract for two pedestrian bridges in Cuckoos Hollow in Werrington, Peterborough. Following a regular inspection the wooden Werrington Park Footbridge and the Baron Court Footbridges were declared unsafe due to deterioration of the structures.
With safety in mind, Peterborough City Council took the decision to close the bridges, to protect members of the public, until replacements could be installed. Diversions have been put in place and Cuckoos Hollow remains accessible to visitors.
Appointed by Milestone Infrastructure, on behalf of Peterborough City Council, Tubecon’s extensive experience with footbridges and active travel bridges will be of considerable benefit on this project. Tubecon is committed to providing sustainable, long-lasting solutions that will require less maintenance and provide long-term value to customers.
Once the old bridges have been demolished, the replacement bridges will be lifted into position with the Werrington Park Footbridge being an 18 metre Howe Truss structure, supported on elastomeric bearings on reinforced concrete pile caps and piles. The replacement Baron Court Footbridge will be identical in construction with an 11 metre span.
Tubecon’s approach to bridge construction combines innovative design, strong engineering principles, and sustainability, so that structures require less maintenance and provide long-term value. The steel structure of the new bridges ensures that they will stand the test of time.
David Perry, Associate Director of Tubecon, stated, “We are committed to creating structures that prioritise safety while enhancing the community’s infrastructure. This project exemplifies our commitment to sustainable development and community well-being.”
